As real estate investors, fixer-uppers are part of the territory – taking less than desirable homes and updating them to fit the current market. We’ve purchased some properties in really bad shape and transformed them into a home to be proud of. I’m not just talking about broken windows and poor landscaping. I’m talking houses that are an absolute wreck from the floor up – foundation to the roof. As a matter of fact, a neighbor to one of our recent projects suggested bulldozing the house entirely and starting over, it looked that hopeless. Have you ever looked at somebody and thought the same thing? “There’s just no way. God can’t do anything with them”? The way they live, the choices they make – they just seem too far gone to turn around? As believers, our whole purpose out here is to advance the Kingdom of God. We’re supposed to be lifting up the name of Jesus and reaching people for Christ. To do that, to introduce people to Christ, we’ve got to recall God’s word and believe it to be true. One,remember that while we were still sinners (and in opposition to God) Christ died for us. And two, believe that He desires all to be saved, even the ones who look like “total tear-downs” to us. So how can we help others get to the process of transformation by the One who makes all things new?
There’s power in sharing what God has done in our lives. Be a listener. It takes having an open ear and open mind and remembering to give others what Christ gives us to give. Someone out there is struggling with something He’s already rescued you from. Tell them about what God has done. Someone is hurting the way you’ve been hurt. Tell them what God has done. Someone is in bondage to sin that you have been set free of. Tell them what God has done. If we don’t testify on the power of our Lord and Savior, who will?
If our purpose is to introduce others to Christ, then there’s no room for condemnation. We’re commanded to love, and love looks for the best in all. Pray to see others the way He does. It’s not us, but God who changes hearts and minds. His desire is that none should perish but that all would come to repentance. Praying for their salvation, for their hope, for their understanding – all helps us to line up with His will.
“Now this is His command: that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another as He commanded us.” We are commanded to believe, and to love. Love looks at people with spiritual eyes to see hurt. Love listens to others. Believe that when God leads us to someone and places us there to listen to them, His Holy Spirit will also give us what we need in that time. He’ll give us the words to say and the time to spend to show somebody the love of Jesus Christ. Believe on the power of Jesus.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (II Corinthians 5:17) And we continue to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. What a beautiful thing to look at somebody who has been TRANSFORMED by the power of God! What an encouragement to hear the testimony of others! What have you seen God do either in your life or somebody else’s? Tell us about it!
Jake Enriquez: 00:03 Welcome back to press and reach. My name is Jake Enriquez, your host a I hope and pray that you’ve guys have had a great, awesome, powerful weekend this past weekend. Hope you had a great time in it, you know, and uh, look forward for this week to come. You know, this past weekend, me and my wife, we got to experience a something out at the end, the AT&T stadium in Arlington, Texas. Man, we got a chance to go out and check out the, the bull riding event, the iron cowboy. So we had a great time and all those guys that, uh, participated in that man. Hey, we sure do. Thank you for the entertainment and all that took place out there this weekend. We had a great time in it. And for those of you, by the way, who also look to go and do something, man, I encourage you, hey, get out there and enjoy yourselves and a fellowship with others.
Jake Enriquez: 00:57 And if it’s, if it’s you and your wife or you and your husband, Hey, make sure you get out as often as you can. Enjoy the company of one another. I was telling my wife, I might even go ahead and pick up some bull riding myself. I was telling him, brother Vic over here who’s just next door, might even go ahead and pull the gate and hang out for eight. I think I can do it by the time we hit the next, uh, iron cowboys. So, uh, you know, pray for me. So I’m just playing. But anyway, I’d love that. I love, uh, going out there. We really had a good time and enjoyed it. Again, man, we just give them their props and we really thank them for that. So anyhow, today we’re going to be talking about a subject or the topic I guess we should say is God changes hearts and minds and uh, because we do know that God truly does, he changes hearts and minds and he’s doing it always, by the way, is even in the process where we should all be in the process of a continued, a renewing of our mind as we go out in this thing called life out here.
Jake Enriquez: 01:59 So this subject, this topic of God changes hearts and minds. We’re just going to go down through there and talk about a few things about it because really what we’re talking about is the transformation process and the transformation process can be lengthy or it can be short. It can be, you know, whatever God wants it to be, but it’s certainly God’s timing. And sometimes, you know, as believers, we look at people and, well, I’ll just ask you this question because I just asked it to a good buddy of mine, but, um, have you ever looked at somebody and thought to yourself, man, there’s just no way. It’s just not going to happen. God is that God can’t do anything with this person. And if we’re being honest and I am, I know that I have before I have certainly done that. And I said, man, it’s a man.
Jake Enriquez: 02:49 I don’t know. It looks a little bit too far gone, you know, maybe hear profanity maybe here, whatever it is. Maybe you see him doing the things that they do. But, you know, the one thing that always brings me back when I think about that is that the scripture says, even yet, while we were still sinners, he died for us on a cross. Meaning that by the way, uh, we believers or once in opposition with God, it’s, it’s called enmity with God. We were at once opposition with God and you know, even in that he loved us. So, and he brought us forward and out of that by the grace of God that is, which is an awesome and powerful things. So I’ll tell you what, I’ll just kind of break it down a little bit different though because I’m thinking about how God changes hearts and minds of people.
Jake Enriquez: 03:43 And one of the things is for us on a natural thing is we always look at really the outside. We really look at the immediate. When you look at the circumstance, we look at what we can see and not what we should be seeing. You know, um, we’re, we’re real estate investors over here in the Dallas, Fort Worth area. And Man, I’d say we always buy and a fixed and then sell houses out here in the local area. And a lot of guys do that around here and I’m sure they do it where you’re at too, by the way. But regardless, we were talking last week and one of our, uh, our partners was talking about the transformation process that he saw taking place at the house. Now I can give it to you this way when we bought the house, you know, and there weren’t really too many people competing or bidding on this house because it was a total absolute wreck.
Jake Enriquez: 04:33 As a matter of fact, when my partner said, hey, you know, uh, we, we, it pride is, needs to be bulldozed looks that bad. I mean, the walls look like they’re falling down the foundation. I mean, you could roll to a corner if you’re not careful. The roof looks caved in. And uh, even the lady across the street, by the way, she said they really just need to bulldoze that house and start over, you know. So that’s how bad it looks on the outside, you know? And we think about it, that’s exactly how bad it looks. And the same goes for us sometimes as believers, as Christians, as we walk out here, you know, we’re supposed to be in the company of others and, and walking into the lives of others and always in fellowship with other believers, but also our whole purpose out here is to advance the Kingdom of God.
Jake Enriquez: 05:24 So we’re supposed to be out here lifting up the name of Jesus and reaching people for Christ Jesus. That’s the whole, that’s the whole, uh, name of the game, man, is we just want to lift up the name of Jesus and we want to reach people for Christ. So if we see a case and it looks a little rough, we don’t just say, just bulldoze the whole thing and throw it out. What we wanna do is make that introduction and making an introduction is everything. You know, because if were in fact able to do that, we can introduce people to Christ. So think about other ways or different ways I should say. How do we go about doing that? Well, first off, I think the the thing we have to remember is number one, we have to believe and understand, again, I’m going to reiterate that is that we at one time were the ones that people were trying to reach and people were saying, man, I don’t know.
Jake Enriquez: 06:17 I know for me, for a fact. I know people probably looked at me and said, man, there’s no way Jason, he’s not going to cross that line. You will not be saved. But you know by the grace of God I am and I have crossed over. The scripture says, from death unto life because I now believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. He is my lord and Savior. And I know now what that means. So Christ came to give us life and give it more abundantly. While the enemy tries to continue with the doubt and plant that stuff in our minds out here without doubt, because you know, remember, he comes to steal, kill and destroy. So if I’m out and about, you know, one of the things that people ask is, okay, so how do you go about helping people or seeing people through in that transformation process?
Jake Enriquez: 07:12 Well, one of the things I would say is that it is, it comes down to testimony. You know, I want to share this story with you real quick. One time, uh, I was in a business meeting with the lady and she had recently, I mean she had just got off the phone with a woman, her family members. So I was asking her, Hey, is everything okay? How’s it going for you? Um, you know, what’s happening? Because she looked, she looked really down and then she started telling me about her son who was going through a lot of problems with alcohol or
Jake Enriquez: 07:49 she told me that it’s been going on for quite some time and she doesn’t see, you know, any hope in him right now because he’s so far gone dealing with this alcohol. So, and this is the part I’m telling you about. We have to have an open ear and open mind and remember to give others would Christ gives us to give. So I started telling her, I said, you do know that there is hope in that situation. She says, Jake, I don’t know. I don’t know. I mean, I hear what you’re saying, but you, you don’t understand how, how far off it is and how bad off it really is. So I shared with her my struggles with alcohol and she just couldn’t believe what I was telling her about
Jake Enriquez: 08:39 simply. I’ve been through all that. I’ve been there, you know, and it is the Lord who has seen me through and I started sharing with her the hope of Christ Jesus. So I think about first how powerful testimony really, because testimonies, everything. We don’t testify on the power of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ who will, uh, you know, how much stuff that God has really done for each and every one of us in our lives. I mean, we can if we can’t even count how much we’ve been covered by the grace of God. So as I shared with her that story, you know, she said, well, you know, maybe you struggled a little bit with us and no, listen and start explaining all the different things. You know, there are still some places they don’t let me go. They probably won’t let me go because of those things.
Jake Enriquez: 09:29 Really. There are places they kicked me out because of that. Alcoholism. Do you know that even that day when I go to try to get insurance, so I got five dwi say they tell me, listen, we can ensure that that’s a long time ago though, you know, but still, regardless of what I’m telling you is the power is in testimony because there’s so much power and testimony because what we’re really testifying on is Jesus Christ. So when we do share that, people are able to see that, hey, maybe transformation can take place. Maybe there is hope and, and you know what? Maybe we don’t have to bulldoze who so and so. No, maybe there is hope. Maybe there is a, maybe there is a chance. As matter of fact, we know that there is, as a believer, we know that there is because you know other people might take a look at it and say, no, I think that’s just a bunch of foolishness about Jesus Christ.
Jake Enriquez: 10:30 And you know what? Men Don’t get offended if people tell you that. Just remember to stand on the word because the scripture says that you know, the gospel is always been foolishness to those who are perishing. But to those who are being saved, it is what? The power of God. And we have to remain confident in that and remember the power of God. So God changes hearts and minds. Remember all at his own will, for it is God that works in us both to will and to do for his good pleasure as he’s drawing us closer. Remember, no man comes to the fatherless TB drawn, right? So as we go in this thing and we think about, uh, how God changes hearts and minds, we as believers certainly don’t want to get caught up and not believing in that and not believing on somebody. The scripture says that in love, you know, love looks for the best in all, and we’re always looking for the best in each and every person out there.
Jake Enriquez: 11:25 Oftentimes, if people are lost, we remember this. They’re coming from places that are hurtful or there’s some some place that they may hurt in their life or maybe they’re insecure about something. Our job is not to go squash a minute and condemn them. We don’t do that. That’s not our job. Our job is to lift them up and make that introduction to Christ Jesus. So first his testimony within, I think about prayer. You know, we’re always supposed to be in. If you meet somebody today and let’s just say they’re a little bit rough around the edges, let’s just say they’re going through a rough time. Christian, what should you do? I mean, what is it that you desire to do? Well? For me, I think about the prayer and the power of prayer and we are to believe in how prayer works for us, but the scripture says that we cast our cares upon the Lord because he cares about us.
Jake Enriquez: 12:23 So I want you to think about that someone that you may be praying for today and maybe you’re praying for their salvation, maybe you’re praying for their hope. It’d be praying that they would come to understand the power of Jesus Christ. Remember that time alone that you spend with the Lord in prayer, it is a blessing and not only that, but you have to know and understand this. When you pray for others and the salvation of others, you are absolutely lining up to the will of God. Hey Cause God and God alone says, man, that he would want all people, everyone to come to repentance and not perish. So that’s the desire of God and if it’s the desire of us, then we’re lining up to the will of God and knowing and understanding that God can do it. Remember that with God, all things are possible.
Jake Enriquez: 13:21 So never did we look upon somebody out there and say, hey, I don’t know about that. I don’t know if they’ll ever go make it or if they’re going to come through there. No, we have to believe which is the last thing you know, we’re commanded to believe. Scripture says, we’re commanded to believe on the power of Jesus Christ. We’re commanded, believe on Jesus Christ, period, and to love one another. So if we’re going to love one another, what does that really look like? Well, if I’m loving somebody else, I want to be able to look with my spiritualize it where somebody may be hurting or the mere fact that they are hurting. I want to open up my ears to be a listener. Remember, we’re supposed to listen to others and where they might be hurting and where they might be suffering. You know, you can’t take a testimony into a place that doesn’t fit.
Jake Enriquez: 14:16 In other words, I’m going to listen to something that they’re going to talk about and that takes something a totally off the wall and completely different. They just look at me like I’m crazy, but you know, uh, never do we do that. That means we’re relying on self. But here’s the beauty in it all for us as believers, we get to rely on the Holy Spirit and when we get to somebody and if God leads us into that place, into that area, we can certainly trust that the holy spirit of God will give us what we need in that time to deliver it. He will give us what we need and what the words to say, and just the time to spend and to show somebody you know the love of Jesus Christ. So God, we remember God changes hearts and minds. It’s happening all around us. As a matter of fact, the scripture tells us that any man who is in Christ is a new creation.
Jake Enriquez: 15:11 The old has passed away. Behold the new has come, but also that he also tells us to, to, uh, be, not conformed to this world, but be transformed by the continuing renewing of our minds. Now, if we’re doing it, if we’re being transformed by the continuing renewing of our minds that we learn and we start to grow to understand, man, hey, how to believe on it, that power of God for somebody else. Because just as we’re growing and just as we’re learning, so as somebody else, so as somebody else learning to come and find out more about the Lord and how to walk with God, how to walk with the Lord so these things should always be on our mind. So I think about this today. When we think about how God changes hearts and minds. Have you ever looked at somebody and say, man, I remember that guy.
Jake Enriquez: 16:03 I remember that girl and I can remember how that person is. Nothing like they are today. It’s a beautiful thing is when you look at somebody and say, man, I remember when they were full of hatred or full of whatever, but now you see the love of God all on them, man. That’s the power of God and that’s truly what God does because God changes hearts and minds. So listen, I want you to do me a favor today. I want to. I want to ask you to do us a favor because we want to know because we know the power of testimony. We love the process of transformation and love. The mere fact that God does change hearts and minds and we love to see that transformation taking place, so come out to press and reach.com forward slash pr 43. We want to hear from you.
Jake Enriquez: 16:54 What have you seen God do either in your life or somebody else’s. We want to know. We want to hear about it. Not only do we encourage you to share it, we encourage you to share it for good reason, and that good reason is somebody else might not hear from you. Somebody else might need to hear, man, God did that for so and so. I’m not the only one that struggles with that. I’m not the only one going through that kind of problem. You see, the power of testimony is everything, and when we see transformation taking place, you kids can’t help how good it does the heart. Praise God. So listen, I pray and hope you have a wonderful, beautiful week out there this week. Stay firm in your faith. Stand firm in your faith and make sure you lift up the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Open up your ears and open up your eyes. Be On and be attentive as you walk amongst the people this week, man. Listen for it. Just because somebody is looking for the Lord Jesus Christ and I know and understand, he’s probably going to send you well along your way, right into a place that he so desire. Hey, we love you. We thank you. God bless you. We lift you up. Have a great week. Take care.
