Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird – all basketball greats, no doubt. But outside of basketball, what can they do for us? Nothing, because we’re all out here playing in the game of life, and it’s serious business. We’re not meant to do life alone, and we need a team around us. We all have friends in our lives somewhere. They might not be such godly friends, or maybe they are and we just don’t know how to reach out to them. If you don’t have your own personal dream team, it’s time to put one together. Start with asking yourself, who can I team up with? Who can I count on? Who can I trust? Who can I open up to?
First off, we have to fully surrender and submit to the Lord. That’s the decision that has to be made on our part before the Dream Team ever takes shape. Decide to do this God’s way. Once we’re determined to do it His way, we can start looking for others who are doing the same thing. We want others who are not just hearers of the Word, but doers. When we see that in others, that demonstrated Word of God, we’re drawn to it. It piques our curiosity and has us wanting to find out how he or she does it. How do they live out what their faith, and how can we learn to do the same? When we start doing it God’s way He puts other people in our path.
These people He places around us – who are they? What are their attributes? Well, we can look at their fruit. And when we see it in somebody else, we want to be more like that. Look to become the friend that we seek. Be sincere, be genuine, and be transparent. Be willing to open up and share life’s struggles. When we’re doing those things, we’ll run into others who are also sincere, genuine, and transparent. God shows us others who are doing the same thing, which is trusting Him and giving Him all the glory. Recognizing these people that God places when we’re seeking His will and His way not only encourages us but also allows us to be an encouragement as well. So how do we put the team together?
Start slow.Build up your team one teammate at a time. Once you’ve identified someone who is walking out their faith, ask them to walk with you while you learn and strengthen your faith. Don’t be ashamed to ask – it means that Christ has been on display in them. So when we see that and we’re able to ask them to walk with us, we’re also helping them grow and become stronger in their walk. When we call upon one another, we get to build relationship and help each other grow. Once we’ve got someone willing to meet with us, we need to be committed and meet with intent. The intent should be to get better. Maybe you can’t meet every week, but once a month is a good start. One at a time, add to your team people with whom you share commonalities. For instance, I’m married (and my wife is definitely part of my Dream Team) so I seek another guy who is also married who goes through the same kind of things and we can talk about what marriage looks like. Same thing if you are a parent or a single parent, a business owner or a pastor. Add to your team the people who are dealing with the kind of things you might face or are facing now and doing it God’s way. For some of us though, God’s already shown us who to meet with and who should be on our Dream Team. We just refuse to go meet with them. And in doing so, we miss out on the blessings that come when we grow in understanding and our faith is strengthened. We miss out on being a part of someone else’s Dream Team and sharing life with our brothers and sisters. Whether young or old in the faith, we all have something to teach and we all have something to learn.
Who’s important for you to have on your Dream Team?

Speaker 1: 00:54 today on this beautiful, wonderful Saturday morning. Hope and pray all has been going well for you in this beautiful week and that you’re looking forward to this weekend and I’m praying and hoping of course that you get the rest that you so well deserve and get replenished and get ready for the week to come up. Man. So many different things happened during the week, you know, uh, we can all go through some different things, but of course when it comes at weekends, we always seem to get up for it. Right. So definitely. So, so listen, welcome back to Preston reach again. Thank you for joining us once again on a beautiful Saturday morning. Before we really get started this morning, I want to make sure I welcome you guys to go back to the press and reach website. So pressing [inaudible], make sure you sign up for the weekly devotionals that we have going out every Saturday.
Speaker 1: 01:45 Uh, right now it’s in the form of a newsletter, but really what they are is devotionals. We send them out on Saturday morning, we make sure just to touch base with each and every one maybe in each and every one where they may be, you know, we all go through life, uh, in different ways. We all go through different situations and circumstances and I know how busy it gets out here. Seriously, it gets really busy out here for each and every one of us. Sometimes we just need to, to have, uh, some word in is on a Saturday morning and uh, just get touched by God and we know now when the word of God, the word of God goes out and does not return void. So make sure that you just get out there for the weekly devotional, you’ll find it on@Prestonreach.com to sign up for the newsletter.
Speaker 1: 02:31 Actually, it takes you there. OK, well, the subject or the topic I should say is, uh, we answer the question today. Who is the Dream Team? And I guess the easiest way to answer that question is to answer who’s not the Dream Team. Well, here’s the thing, and I’m not taking away from anybody or their skill set or what maybe they have done out here in, uh, uh, in, in their career what their skills. But you know, Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, man, guys, they are great at basketball. They upgraded basketball, they were great basketball players, some of the very best to ever play the game. But truth be told, I’ve got to ask you this, what can they do for us? Unless we want to watch another video of how they used to play in everything. So that’s not the Dream Team I’m talking about. So if I’m answering the question, who is the Dream Team?
Speaker 1: 03:29 I have to first think about the game I’m playing in the game I’m playing is in life. And if we’re playing this game of life, you have to know and understand we’re playing for keeps out here. Uh, this is a serious ordeal. This is a serious thing as we walk through life together. So the real question I come up with is a, who can I team up with? Who were the ones I can count on? Who are the ones that I can trust? Who are the ones that I may be able to open up to, but more importantly, how can I get myself to reach out to them to reach out to him? Because, you know, we all have friends in our lives somewhere and maybe those friends might not be such godly friends or maybe they are godly friends and we don’t know how to reach out to them because maybe we feel, uh, maybe a little bit discouraged or we’re not on their level or whatever that might be.
Speaker 1: 04:23 But I gotta tell you, you know, it all starts with something, right? If I’m thinking about who is the Dream Team, I’m thinking about who are the people doing it God’s way, that’s what I want to know. Who are the people that are doing it God’s way? So doing it God’s way really is the first thing that I think about. And if I want to do it God’s way, then that means I’m going to have to go ahead and surrender and submit unto the Lord. Right? Um, you know, I can tell you that forever as a, you know, as a youngster growing up or when I had some issues that I was going through that were pretty much a self created, you know, things that I was doing. I always ask the question, you know, because I used to have a whole lot of issues with alcohol, right?
Speaker 1: 05:06 So I’ll always ask the question, why am I always in trouble? And these other guys just don’t seem like no one, you know, there are any ones getting in trouble, just me. So I would always go back to wondering, but, you know, doing the same thing over and over, not doing anything different but at still hang out with the same people and hanging out with the same people. Man, I’m telling you, if they in fact are doing things that are not in the Lord’s way, well, you know, the, uh, they call it the definition of insanity is to keep doing the same things over and over and expect different results. And that’s the first thing I think about is when are we going to make a decision to do it God’s way? And if we’re going to do it God’s way, then we’re going to have to, uh, look to others who are doing the same thing.
Speaker 1: 05:55 You know? And I’ll tell you, if I want to do it in a godly way, I have to say, what does that look like? I have to ask myself, what does that look like to do it God’s way? Well, you do know that out here we have what we call the demonstrated word of God. The demonstrated word of God is a eight. We see that in others who are actually living out their faith, walking out that faith, ah, doing it the Lord’s way. So it’s not just a mere hearer of the word, but a doer. So we can see that in others. And when we do see that in others, you know that were actually drawn to it, it actually piques our curiosity. In other words, we want to go see. We don’t find that a little bit more, how does this guy doing this or how’s this young lady doing this?
Speaker 1: 06:43 And start asking questions. So when I think about doing it God’s way, I want to start calling on the right people. I want to start seeking God and calling on the right people that can help me in different circumstances or different situations. And you know, the first thing that we are looking for is what we call spirit led. In other words, you know the scripture says they will know you are mine by your love because the commandment was that we would love one another. Of course, love God and love one another. Right? And Christ said that they will know you by your love. So love is always on the forefront of the mind of anyone who’s doing it God’s way. And that’s why we’re actually drawing were drawn to people who have that love of God in Him who have the love of the Lord fully on display.
Speaker 1: 07:39 And we can actually see it and know that that’s true about them because you know you don’t have to ask so many questions when it comes to that. You say, I mean, you ha. You might ask the question, how does this guy do that? Or how’s this girl do that? You know? And then you want to get closer to them. And you know what again, I was telling you about curiosity earlier, we started asking questions. So we started asking questions of people that look like that. Because we see that demonstrated word of God, right? So, uh, not only that, the first thing that we have to do and doing it God’s way is to study and search and, and, and trust God, but we’re always seeking. Right? And I got to tell you that my brother made a statement earlier when he decided to do it God’s way.
Speaker 1: 08:27 We were talking about this earlier, you know, he said, man, when I decided to do it God’s way, you know, I wasn’t looking for the friends, Jake. I literally wouldn’t looking for that. I just so happen to look up one day and found that I had a whole new set of friends. And that is absolutely true. When we start doing it God’s way, what happened is, what happens is God puts other people in our path. So what happens is we no longer look to do it, the old worldly way. We looked to do it God’s way and he starts putting people around us, which is what we’re coming up to next. It’s just the mere fact that God places he’s his people around us. So, you know, when I think about that, I think about, well, OK, if he places other people around us that are godly people and now I’m making new friends, how do I, how do I really cultivate that?
Speaker 1: 09:23 How do I nurture that relationship? How to go about really bringing the very, very best out, uh, in these new relationships. And I gotta tell you it does take a little bit of work, but at the same time, if we’re trusting God and the people that he puts around us, we can absolutely, absolutely engage in that. And I can tell you it’s a great time. Have you ever heard people say, man, Christians don’t know how to fun. Have Fun, man. How wrong are they? I’ve got a lot of Christian brothers and sisters out here. We have a blast. OK? So be excited about the people that God puts around us because he puts some people around this man that absolutely helped change our lives and not only helps to change our lives, but it helps to mold as God helps to mold us into somebody different. You remember the scripture, the scripture says that any man in Christ is a new creation. The old is gone and beholding newest come well. The new is that we get not only new relationships but new ways and other people that God puts around us remember, is actually what’s helping us to form those new ways, but I’d say we’re going to do a while. We try to figure out who is the Dream Team. Let’s take a really quick break and we’re going to be right back.
Jake Enriquez: 10:41 Hey guys, it’s Jacob. Hey, I just want to take a brief moment to ask you if in fact he liked the podcast to and subscribe, rate and review. Just take a brief moment to do that, but not only that, we ask that you come and visit us on progressing reached.com where we’re all about faith, family, and community. We know that faith is that wall, so come join us as together we build our communities back up and give God all the glory.
Speaker 1: 11:23 Welcome back to press and reach, man. We’re talking about or asking the question and trying to answer the question. Who is the Dream Team? So the Dream Team, again, you know what I was just pointing out earlier before we went to the breakers. You know, first I want to do it God’s way. If I’m doing it God’s way, I want to start seeking more about God. So you know, first and foremost, I want to seek God in all his ways and, and learn to study, learn to search, learn to seek and learn to trust God more, more for who he is. And if I’m doing that, if I’m really seeking God and his way, what happens is God actually puts people, his people around us, and you know, when we look up, like I was mentioning earlier before we went to the break, you know, my brother was telling me earlier that that’s how he noticed it.
Speaker 1: 12:12 You know, I looked up one day, jake and I had new friends. I think that’s amazing. I think that’s awesome. But I also know this, that my friend is a hand of God and that is God putting the Dream Team together and our very own lives. OK, so, so let’s talk about the people that God, places around us. Who are they? Well, what are their attributes? A look at their fruit. You can always see it, right? You can always see that in others. So when I see it in somebody else, I know that I like that. I want to be more like that. So the first thing that I want to do is if I really want to cultivate these new relationships are really want to take advantage of who God’s putting around me. The first thing I gotta do is look to become the friend that I seek.
Speaker 1: 13:06 In other words, I don’t want to be the very one that people may draw themselves too because I want to be the very one who’s sincere, whose genuine, whose parent, who’s not afraid to open up and draw closer to God by just opening up about different things that are going on in my own life and if I’m willing to do that, I can guarantee you you’re going to run into people that are doing the same thing, trusting the same God you trust, which is the one and only creator of Heaven and earth of all that is seen and unseen and giving it to God and giving him all the glory. You see, when we’re doing that and we become first, the very friend that we may seek. What happens is, again, God shows us other people doing the same thing. They to love God’s word and they too are willing to receive and they too are not merely hearers but doers.
Speaker 1: 14:06 So when we get to know that, we get to know people like that. I’m telling you, A, we get to share in different testimony. We get to share in different, uh, times are trials in our lives, tribulations. We get to encourage one another and if we get to encourage one another, I’m telling you, we can really build upon this thing together. And what happens is eventually we have our own dream team. Now, how, how does that work? How do we put our own Dream Team together? So let’s just say I’m not so good at this thing. As I say, I’m just learning. I’ll take us through a different, a couple of different paths if I’m just getting started. Well, the first thing I want to do when it comes to putting people together like that is the very first thing I want to do is I want to ask, you know, I had somebody call or no earlier this week and asked that very same thing.
Speaker 1: 15:00 OK? So here’s the thing, one at a time, I want you to think about it a one at a time. You have to take this thing serious. If you really want to be able to reach out and call upon your brothers, call upon your sisters, do life together, be encouraged. If you really want to be doing this thing, if you’re allowed to do this thing, start one at a time, so start slow. For me. I think it’s starting to put your own Dream Team together. Start slow, start slow and ask somebody, hey, you know, I’m trying to get better in this thing. I’m trying to learn more about my own faith and had a walk stronger in it. Would you be willing to walk with me? Let me tell you why you should not be ashamed of that for any man or woman who’s walking with Christ right in absolutely trusting God.
Speaker 1: 15:56 If they hear that question, they are going to be elated. You know why that is? Because something has been seen in them. OK, yes, I understand for feel good, but listen, it’s not a feel good. It’s the mere fact that Christ has been on full display from that person. So when we see that and we are able to ask that we’re actually helping them and their wall because now they become stronger to know, hey, you know, uh, somebody sees the Lord in me and that’s how he met. Should be celebrated, right? Celebrated because that’s what we want. We want to be able to have their. Remember it says that the scripture says no longer I, but Christ liveth in me. So now that we’re calling upon one another, one at a time, I tell you, we can build a relationship there. But secondly, I think about meeting with intense.
Speaker 1: 16:52 If you’re asking someone to meet with you, be committed and meet with intent, meet with an intention to get better, OK? Have a commitment about it. Even if you can’t go about it every week, maybe you start once a month. I don’t care what it is, start do it with intent, do it with purpose, and asked for commitment in it. Can we do this thing together? You know? And also in doing this, putting your own Dream Team together. So I think about, OK, well who are the members of the Dream Team? So I asked, what would your pastor be, you know, a member of your Dream Team, I don’t know, I mean maybe you have that personal relationship with your pastor that he could be, but you know, a lot of pastors, you know, they tend and the whole flock, you know, so I don’t really think that your own pastor has to be a, your Dream Team put together, you know, you have a lot of guys, a lot of gals out here that are certainly capable of ministering with a pastoral perspective and a passport, pastoral aspect of things.
Speaker 1: 17:55 So definitely just meeting with different people. But I think about commonalities. In other words, what’s common to me? Well, if I’m married, I’ll want to seek other people who are married. Another guy who’s married and has a marriage and he goes through the same kind of things and we can talk about what marriage looks like. See? Then I got somebody I can kind of lean on and talk about, open up to about marriage come. There’s a lot of different things about marriage we all want to talk about. But Hey, what I’m saying is there’s something common as a common ground there, but speaking to marriage, if I am married and like myself, I am, I got to tell you, my wife is certainly the biggest part of my dream team. Seriously, because I trust her. We go through this thing together, we do life together.
Speaker 1: 18:44 She’s not going to lie to me. She’s going to tell me the truth even when it hurts. OK? So anyway, but anyway, I’m just dealing with you, our spouse, they should be considered part of the Dream Team. But now if you’re really going deeper, think about, uh, I want to, I’ll, I’ll think about single parents. Well, if I’m a single parent, Hey, what’s wrong? What’s wrong with having another single parent involved where I can touch base with, I can talk to about these things and maybe if I’m going to be encouraged, great. But I also could do or could be the encouragement in their life, right? Also, I think about business owners, man, we’re all out here. Uh, if you have your own business, you know, and understand, hey, we’re trying to do the very best that we can do in business. We all face different challenges, different difficulties, trials, tribulations, whatever they might be, man, I’m telling you, you might face them.
Speaker 1: 19:37 So, hey, it’s great to break bread with different business owners and get them on your Dream Team, man. They do life together and do business together, right? We’re supposed to be willing to walk this thing out together. So what about pastors? Well, hey man, if you’re a pastor, I got to ask this question. Who’s your Dream Team? Who are you counting on who you trusted? Who you opening up to? Who are you talking to? Because if you don’t have that as a pastor, you’re no different than anybody else, friend, because here’s the deal. We should all have it in our lives. You know, the scripture tells us that, uh, in Hebrews 10, 25, let us not forsake meeting together as some have already done, right? But just to be able to gather together, encourage one another and move together in this thing called life. But hold on a minute because remember I told you there’s two different paths we can go by. There are those that are new in this thing, those are who are learning how to walk, those who are learning how to get out there a little bit. There’s also friend, a Christian brothers and sisters out here who have plenty other Christian brothers and sisters that they just will not go meet with. And I gotta I gotTa tell you something, man.
Speaker 4: 20:54 Yeah.
Speaker 1: 20:56 That really, really baffles me to no end. God is putting so many people around you and your life. And we as people refuse to go meet with him.
Speaker 1: 21:11 Do you understand that God speaks to us through different people. Uh, he gives, he gives us encouragement through others so many times. So it’s up to us. Now I’m not talking about someone who’s new anymore. I’m talking about the other path I told you about, which is what about if it’s somebody who’s been doing this for a minute, why are we not with intent? Meeting with others? You know, you have to really learn how to call on your brother and sister. Get out there with intent, with purpose, uh, be motivated by the spirit of God that is to go and open up and try to grab a better understanding of how to walk this thing out. God’s certainly given it to us, but it’s gonna require us to get out of our comfort zone and start doing so. And I can guarantee you if you did so, if you’re not already doing it, you’re going to see a part of life that’s absolutely mind boggling.
Speaker 1: 22:13 You’re going to be like, why did not do this alone a long time ago? It’s a blessing. It really is. So please, if in fact your that one, make sure you start plugging in somewhere. But the further along we go, we know and understand, man, it’s great to have the Dream Team together. You know, and I look today, you know, I’ve got a group of guys that I meet every Wednesday. Not Love those guys. I really do. They, they’re so willing to tell each other the truth. We all are. And you know, honestly, it can be kinda difficult sometimes. Sometimes we might experience a, a little bit of a difficult situation or maybe it’s hard to hear things, but we need that. We all need that. We really do. I count on my trust him and I can just tell you this. Let me tell you what it looks like here for us.
Speaker 1: 23:00 And that’s not the only people I should tell you that are on my Dream Team I think about, but there’s a, you know, all different. We’re all different ages and we’re all different in a marriage, a way. Every, everybody there has to be married, but it was about six or seven guys in there and everybody’s at a different age, a different status. Um, everybody’s learning and growing together. I love the mere fact that I can learn from somebody who’s been married 40 years or something. Wow. To me, man. You know, how valuable that is to me. I love it and soak it up. But everyone’s been married in that group, different amount of years. So marriage just so happens to be something we can all touch on, but not only that, we talk about business and we talk different trials, tribulations, we talk about dealing with our kids.
Speaker 1: 23:49 But man, yeah, I understand it’s a joy to be able to do that. But here’s the thing, don’t come to the Dream Team to just soak it all up and do nothing else about it. In other words, give man, give everything you’ve got and you become part of other people’s Dream Team. I love the fact that I can meet with guys at a, hey, there’s so many of them out here that is so much further along in their understanding of the word of God and Man, uh, I love to get around them and we can break bread together. I’m serious. I love that they teach me things and I get to learn from them, walk with them and grow with them. So let me just bring it down to this and ask you this because I’m thinking about who is the Dream Team. But the question really today is for yourselves, who is your Dream Team? And maybe you have somebody else you think of, uh, maybe, uh, you know, we, you pour into somebody younger than you in the faith and that doesn’t always mean in age, but it could mean in the faith or maybe you’re receiving from somebody who’s been walking a lot longer.
Speaker 1: 24:56 But if you were to answer the question, who is the Dream Team for you? OK, come back to reach.com, forward slash pr 47. Get involved, get engaged. Let us know from your perspective who’s important for you to have on your Dream Team and why we really want to know and I hope and pray that you share it with others as they go along and we’d go along, man, we’re all walking this thing out together. Pray and hope now that you have a blessed weekend, get your head up and stay focused, man, because God is great.
Jake Enriquez: 25:34 Once again. It’s been a joy hanging out with you, so please keep pressing and reach and remember that you are not walking out in your faith alone, out here for he has promised that he will never leave you nor forsake you. Have a blessed and wonderful day.
Speaker 2: 25:54 Um.
