For too many people God is still the unknown. We live in a time where most people know of God but have not drawn close to Him. For whatever reason, we choose to step lightly around the issue as if it’s simply okay. The fact of the matter is that God our creator wants a relationship with us. In this episode, we attempt to answer the questions, “Why have faith in the unknown God?” We seek by asking and stating :
Jake Enriquez: 00:45 Welcome back to Press and Reach my name is Jake Enriquez your host.
Jake Enriquez: 00:46 You know what. This morning we’re going to have a great time and answer a question that we’re going to attempt to answer a question for most it’s an actual question somebody asked me this past week and I love this conversation. I really do. I love to have this conversation. I believe it’s necessary and it’s beneficial to all of us so the question was why have faith in an unknown god? The only way I can really spend time and that of course is we need to break it down a little bit. But I have a couple of questions and a statement that would go along with answering this question of why have faith in an unknown god. The first question I would say number one is Who is your god ? Then number two is what can this God do for me?
Jake Enriquez: 01:29 But number three is great shall be your reward. So number one who is your god in order to identify our God. Why
Jake Enriquez: 01:38 don’t we just kind of talk about some current events first because I believe we can kind of acknowledge it in different ways today. And this is what I mean by that. I know that most of us by now have heard recent news about you know some things that take marriage have taken place in Hollywood. Mr. Harvey Weinstein and the incidents that took place and it’s all over the news right now. So listen I’m not going to sit here and try to bash or judge or or any of that old stuff but what I can say is this. You know this is what we can see just out of observation. It sure isn’t good is it? Man these things are not good.
Jake Enriquez: 02:13 But how did all of this come about so we have to ask ourselves the question what what happened you know. Is it money. Is it fame. Is it power. What was the trade off. Why did things have to be so silent for so long. Somewhere down the line somebody’s God, I can assure you of this, was truly identified.
Jake Enriquez: 02:37 Now whether that be money would that be power whether that be fame. I don’t know I’m not the judge I surely can’t say but you can surely see this said somebody is God showed up and reared up its ugly head. And that is what has happened in what is taking place there in Hollywood California. But here’s the thing for us we want to you know we don’t have to really look at the news we can actually just look at our own situation we could actually just look at our own backyard.
Jake Enriquez: 03:05 We can actually just take the time to examine ourselves. So the first question of course again we ask is Who is your God. And by that I mean what is priority in your life. So you know it can it can outright be your business is going to be your spouse it can be maybe a hobby that you have. Even sports man we can be all in with any kind of sporting activity and all of these things and you know there’s so many different things that can truly become a god to us and we’ve got to truly understand what’s happening when this stuff starts to take place. So you know one of the other things that you can do is just look at what takes up your time what takes up your calendar space so to speak. What’s priority again in your life OK.
Jake Enriquez: 03:51 So here’s some questions we can ask ourselves about. I’ll just use business for example if I know more about all the business strategies and all the right ways to go about doing my business than I know about my Lord and My God. I just may have a problem. And that’s the truth. I may have put somebody or something before the Lord my God and the Scripture says have no other gods before me. Now I know a lot of people think that’s just a little bit too much or that’s just that’s not what that scripture means. No what it truly means have no other God before me. So who is your God when I ask that question is Who are you faithful to what are you faithful to. You know we are asking the question today is why have they and an unknown god and the only way it can be an unknown god to us is if we don’t truly know him.
Jake Enriquez: 04:45 So that’s the reason why we’re asking this question and who is our God. I’m praying and hoping it’s not my business I’m praying and hoping even it’s not my spouse I’m praying and hoping it’s not my children. But here’s the thing if I’m an athlete and I’m training seven days a week and I’ve got all gone all in and I have no other desire to do anything else and then I’ll tell you something right now. That’s because my God is that sport whatever that might be. So we have to first identify who is our God. We’re going to kind of look at the scripture today. I’m just going to simply read some things and we can kind of get an explanation from that. This comes from Acts-17 and it starts in verse 16 and this is when the Apostle Paul was awaiting to speak in Athens right now while Paul waited for them at Athens. His
Jake Enriquez: 05:33 spirit was provoked within him for he saw that the city was given over to idols. Therefore he reasoned in the Synagogue with the Jews and with the Gentile worshippers and in the marketplace daily with those who happened to be there then certain appear again and Stoic philosophers encountered him and some said what does this babbler want to say. Others said he seems to be Proclaimer to be a proclaimer of foreign gods because he preached to them Jesus and the resurrection. Well let’s get down diverse 23 or 22. I’m sorry. So back 17 verse 22. Then Paul stood in the midst of the Aeropagus and said Men of Athens are perceived in all things you are very religious. For as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship I even found an altar with this inscription To the Unknown God.
Jake Enriquez: 06:32 Therefore the one whom you worship without knowing Him and proclaim to you God who made the world and everything in it since he is Lord of Heaven and Earth does not dwell in temples made with hands. Nor is it nor is he worship with men’s hands as though he needed anything since he gives to all life breath in all things.
Jake Enriquez: 06:56 So what we’re looking at here is this is a very religious society this is a very committed people to something other than God by the way in other things other than God. As matter of fact the Greeks they had many gods. You know the God of this and the God of that anything and everything but the true God. In other words.
Jake Enriquez: 07:15 But again we don’t have to really look far because it seems like today in our society in our world man we’ve got a god of this and a God of that ourselves out here and it may be the God of business the god of money the God of whatever it might be the God of a hobby a god of sports a god of whatever whatever it might be we’ve got to ask ourselves that simple question always.
Jake Enriquez: 07:36 Who is our God. Because sometimes just like when Paul was talking or speaking I should say to the people there the Word of God also speaks to us. So if you look at verse 29 It says Therefore since we are the offspring of God we ought not to think that the divine nature is like gold or silver or stone something shaped by art and man’s devising. In other words we get Look at God as if he’s money. We can’t look at God as if he’s something that was shaped by man and that’s what we’re going to have faith in did he say we can’t do that because that won’t stand. So that brings us to the second question is which is what can this God do for me.
Jake Enriquez: 08:24 And in order to answer that question I mean we’ve got to be really honest. OK. That’s why I think it’s very important to identify who is our God who’s playing God in our life right now. So I mean we have to be honest because if we’re being honest we all fall victim at some time or another to fear or doubt or maybe just simply the pressures of the world. Right. Well as a real estate investor. I kind of share this with you and see you can see where I’m coming from as a real estate investor. I can recall going into a lady’s house one time. OK. And you know what. She shared a story with me about her family. She was tell me about these issues that were going on and I really felt bad for it because her family was really trying to take her house away and I could see they were trying to cheat her in a way that you know it just wasn’t right and she was actually telling me about all these things.
Jake Enriquez: 09:15 But at the same time she wanted me to buy this house but you know as an investor I got to get a certain price and there just really wasn’t room to make the deal work out for us and you know I’m very honest and open about what I do with the houses I buy them fix them or flip them. But regardless I could tell that you know she was a little bit discouraged about what was going on with her family and I really wanted to pray with her that day.
Jake Enriquez: 09:39 But I didn’t do that you know I didn’t do that because I didn’t want her to think that I was using prayer in order to get the deal you see so I restricted myself and I didn’t pray with her. No. In my heart I should have prayed with her at that time because I knew that that was what I’m called to do it anywhere and everywhere I go. But I know that I gave in that day and as I walked away and drove off you know I didn’t end up doing the deal. But here’s the deal I’d tell you this. I felt horrible about it because I allowed that old pressure from the we can call it fear because that’s what it was. I was fearful that hey if I if I do this at my might not have a chance because you know whatever the excuse may have been that’s what I did.
Jake Enriquez: 10:24 But I can tell you this much after the Lord really showed it to him this that meant never again. And now it doesn’t matter if I blow the deal get the deal doesn’t matter to me. I’m going to do what the Lord leads me to do. So the reason I put that out there is because sometimes we fall victim to fear or doubt and we don’t trust in the Lord. And when we do that we actually are putting something else above the throne of God. So want you think about this for a second. Let’s think about an athlete. What can this God do for me. Here’s the question. So think about an athlete remember seven days a week he’s training going hard. He’s doing all the right things he needs to do in order to be the very best.
Jake Enriquez: 11:08 But when it all comes down to it what can that do for him. Nothing for our eyes just might be on the temporal and not the eternal. But what about our business. What if we were all in with the business. And now that business has become our God. Right. What can this business do for me. Well I mean it can satisfy me on the temporary but it can’t do anything past that can it and you can’t take the business with you can you. Now here I’ll share this with you as well as a real estate investor. I got to show you this. It’s become very very clear to me that nothing belongs to us. So what can this God do for me if anything and everything here is only temporary materialistic and whatnot.
Jake Enriquez: 11:55 What can it really do for me. When I buy a house a lot of times you know I’ve bought houses from many different people and I always mean my brother I always liked to share and kind of look at some things when we do but it’s always very moving to me when I walk into a house that has gone through the hands of different family members and along the lines and now it’s kind of over. You know it’s no more. I’ve actually sat with a lady one time she told me Jake I’m just ready to move on to the final stages of my life. And when you take a look around and the house is empty and there’s nothing else in there. Somebody lived their life there. Maybe they raised their family there maybe they shared life together there but at the end it’s just a simple building and nothing else there.
Jake Enriquez: 12:42 It’s all over. What can this god of money or business or passion do for me now if my god is everything and everybody but the creator of the universe the creator of heaven and earth and of all that is seen and unseen. I’m having faith in the wrong god. That’s why it’s important for me to have faith in the unknown god because if I don’t know when it’s time that I get to know him.
Jake Enriquez: 13:12 It’s imperative that I get to know him that I would spend time with him I think about this for a minute. The question is What can this God do for me. Well the creator of heaven and earth of all that is seen and unseen the creator of you and me the one that gave life to us who breathed the breath in US really wants for us to get to know him. And you can learn all the things that he can do for us and with us.
Jake Enriquez: 13:37 Number one is he absolutely loves us like nobody else can and that love never dies it doesn’t die with a business it doesn’t die with a family member it doesn’t die with friends it doesn’t die with different relationships it never dies. The love of God never dies.
Jake Enriquez: 13:57 So to know God is to know love. That’s what this unknown God. If in fact he is unknown can do for us. Which brings us to the third and final point which is great shall be your reward. I know this happens to be most all of our favorite part. I know it’s mine but great shall be your war because you know. James tells us that we shall receive the crown of life which is promised to us by the way by the Lord. For those who love him and that by the way says when you’ve endured that temptation in other words when you’ve gone through that and you stood under those fires though temptations you know to give way to that that god of money or that God passion or that god of whatever it might be when we’ve stood under that and denied those temptations and we’ve give it all to the Lord for our brother James is tennis great shall be your reward because you will receive the crown of life.
Jake Enriquez: 14:54 And I don’t know about you but the crown of life sure sounds a whole lot better than any old Oscar award. But not just the crown of life. How about eternal life. That’s what we’re promised. For those who follow the Lord. For those who get to know God. For
Jake Enriquez: 15:08 those who have faith in God we get the eternal life. See a godly life starts off in grace but ends in glory.
Jake Enriquez: 15:18 And most people don’t really understand that or we would actually move a lot different around here meaning this the end of life on earth is not the end it’s only the beginning. I don’t know about you but I’m looking forward to where I’m going too.
Jake Enriquez: 15:33 For he has promised me that eternal life you know trusting in God may not always be easy but it’s always been promising for God promises to never leave or forsake us.
Jake Enriquez: 15:46 You know for those brothers and sisters out who are trust in the Lord. Do remember and know the times can be tough. I know it can be troublesome. I know there will be some things that we’re going to have to go through but the Scripture says that the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth.
Jake Enriquez: 16:01 That he may show himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is completely his meaning that if you’re trusting in God in all those situations know and understand God’s sees that in you and he delights in that he delights to show up on our behalf. He delights to show himself strong on our behalf who are trusting in him. The Scripture says to trust in the Lord with all our heart and not and lean not on our own understanding. And that’s what we’re to do out here. That’s what should be exciting for us each and every one of us as we go through this weekend. We can no one understand right now that if God is for us who then can stand against. Think about that for a minute. If the creator of heaven and earth of all that is seen and unseen the one who breathed life in you in me is standing with us.
Jake Enriquez: 16:50 You really have to start asking yourself the question Who then could stand against God and praise God. I don’t know about you but that it gets me fired. Been this weekend. It always gets me fired up though as I come to this time. So
Jake Enriquez: 17:03 hey do me a favor if you could think of someone that would benefit from just hearing this simple message. Just share the episode with him because you know we really want to encourage them in this time maybe they go to a hard time. Whatever that time may be we’ve all been through those hard times in difficult situations. But why have faith in an unknown god. Well here it is. God is with us and if we don’t know God now it’s time to get to know him. It’s time to come to know him and getting to know him. You can get to stand on the promises of God that’s right to stand on the promises of the one and only Creator of heaven and earth. Man I love you and I thank God for you each and every one praying for you. I wish you a blessed day.

Jake Enriquez: 18:28 For he has promised that he will never leave you nor forsake me. Have a Blessed.
Jake Enriquez: 18:34 And wonderful day.
This may sound like an unfair question, but with all that goes on in our lives, it’s necessary. We can easily look at the current events that are taking place today and see that there is surely something horrible stirring up in movie land. Mr. Harvey Weinstein is in the news facing some serious allegations on recent incidents. The truth of the matter is that there is a lot more involved than just Harvey.
We will never really know the driving factors that cause anyone else to go astray, but the good news is that we can surely examine ourselves. Who is our God? In other words where are my priorities showing up? What am I most faithful to and do I recognize it? It could be business, our spouse, a hobby, or even sports. Now, I’m not saying to ignore the above; however, placing them in the proper perspectives would be wise. If we know more about everything else but God, then we just may have a problem. He just may be the Unknown God.
If we are honest, we can start to see the actual priorities in our lives by the amount of time we commit to them. If we have done this, then we can ask ourselves another question. What can this god do for me? If an athlete trains seven days a week, but has no time for the Lord, then what can he obtain for eternity? This can surely be said of anything we over commit to. Is it money, business, relationships, or hobbies? Whatever it may be, we must ask, “What can this god do for me?”
Often times we fall victim to fear and doubt because we lose track of whom really provides us with everything. This is when we give in to believing and trusting in something other than God. The good news is that we can quickly get back on track with the right acknowledgement. However, we should not stop with acknowledgment. We should look to make the unknown to become the known by seeking a more sincere relationship with our creator. He gave His only son because He loved us. This love that was given by God will never die, for God is love. He can give us a life of love that is everlasting and nothing else on earth can do that.
A life that is lived with faith in God will prove to carry its own rewards. The scripture speaks of obtaining the crown of life after enduring all temptation (James 1:12). However, I think we all may tend to forget that life in the Lord is eternal and has no end. He gives us His promises that He will not forget. Over and over again we read in the bible how God loves to show up strong on behalf of those who will trust in Him (2 Chron.16:9).
Remember this, if you must. The creator of heaven and earth is on the side of the faithful, for it is impossible to please God without faith. So, if He is with us, then who could stand against (Rom. 8:31)? If He is still the unknown god, then it’s time to make Him the known God and surely delight in all that He is.
